The journey commences...again

In June 2014, I had planned to mate Xena (Asterhund Nayda, but i shall just refer to her by her kennel name from here) wiht an interstate dog. It was to be done by A.I. I went to the vet that was recomended by other German Shepherd breeders, imported the seamen from interstate, justified the costs and done the prog tests and everything. Then came the day to have her inisminated. Too say I was excitied with the prospect of my first litter was an understatement.

Sadly though, it was not meant to be and the insimination did not take. Funny, I felt flat and felt like something had let me down but I didn't know why. Questions were asked, answers evaded me. I then accepted the fact that some things are just mean to be. So life goes on and soon i found the joys of building a great relationship with Xena through Agility. Plans of litters and breeding went fleeing from my plans and desires.

Then one day whilst surfing the net, I saw this wonderful looking German Shepherd Dog. He had simular markings to Xena. I found out who owned him and it turned out to be the owner of the Xena's dad (Not the same dog or related as we are using with Xena) He was a local dog here is South Australia. He has been graded Class 1 in his breed survey which is conducted by the German Shepherd Dog Club SA. More information will be posted on this site as the time draws near.

So with some excitement, I started thinking about mating Xena with this dog. I believed it would certainly improve my bloodlines, and given both parents are Grade 1, I hoped that the off spring would benefit from the strenths that both parents have.

So that is a little bit of how I came to be back on this road of breeding again. The reason of this blog is to give anyone out there who has not bred and may think of it in the future, or does not want to breed, an idea of what it is like to do what I would like to think is responsable breeding using the best practice methods. I plan to keep one of the pups myself and will probably follow his life on this blog, so others that may come across this site can learn from both my mistakes and success.
