Rory socialising

Rory is now 4 months old (Well tomorrow he is) and fully vacinated.  Up to now he has met a few other dogs in certain situations.  These being either at my house or the other dog's house, the other dog has to be fully vacinated and the meeting is always supervised.  Hopefully you get the idea.  Her north of Awelaide, parvo virus is rife so you just cant be too careful.  Having said that though, dogs need to be socialised at an early age,  meeting people of all shapes and sizes, being exposed to car rides, traffic noises  and the list goes on.  This actually helps develop the dog as he grows.  Puppy schools are an excellent way to socialise your pup.  A lot of vets run puppy schools an pups can attend after their second immunisation because the environment is controlled.  Makes it hard though when everything is closed over Christmas.  So tonight, Rory ventured off to the Gawler Dog Club for their puppy socialisation night.  He met lots of other pups around his age of different breeds.  Was given exercises to do withthe other pups and even held by a stranger whilst I helped with the class.  Apart from everyone making comments of his floppy ears (A curse all German Shepherds must endure) it was a great night.  And it is always a pleasure to be able to help new dog owners with training problems they may be having. So all in all, a great night had by Rory and me.  What topped the night off was his behavior.  There was no jumping up and down by him, his recalls were good for his age and experience and the walking on loose lead exercise wasn't too bad, especially sine we hav not really focused on that as of yet.  Other things they got us to do was vet examinations where you have to touch your dog all over and keep him calm and touch exercises which I have already trained Rory to do.  Looking forward to the next one
